Midea demonstrated a domestic robot handling dishes, preparing popcorn and interacting with visitors at IFA. The company says the research platform is built on its EAGLES system architecture and four multimodal foundation models, with longer-term ambitions across laundry, cooking, cleaning, companionship and whole-home control. Midea presented those functions beside SMART MASTER, an appliance ecosystem organized around separate comfort, health, efficiency and service agents. The public evidence is a booth demonstration and company description: Midea disclosed no launch date, price, household trial data or measures of manipulation reliability.
A question for designCould a home robot begin with a narrow set of reversible chores—and show what it is about to do—before asking residents to trust a general-purpose body in shared space?*1
