Haier presented a connected home in which familiar appliances make bounded adjustments from local conditions. The Vision 15 washing machine uses an internal camera and sensors to detect load size, balance and foam, then adjusts water, detergent, drum movement and program settings. Haier also showed a refrigerator prototype that recognizes ingredients and recommends storage conditions, an oven that recognizes food and can stop a program at the intended result, and televisions that alter picture and sound using content and ambient conditions. Euronews separately observed Haier's laundry demonstration, including an alert for a red item among whites. Haier did not disclose model-by-model availability, accuracy or how these decisions are explained when the system gets them wrong.
A question for designCould each appliance make one useful judgment visible at the moment it acts, so the home gains initiative without asking people to audit an invisible system?*1 *2
